This section didn't exist when I first came here so I'll introduce myself now. My name is Bill and I live in a small town on the northeast coast of Florida. While traveling around the world as a journalist in the U.S. Navy, I discovered that cribs involve more than the dozen figures that were sold in the U.S. and there was more than just the cardboard stable that was sold for a manger scene. I started buying new figures and accessories in places like Columbia, Peru, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Germany. In Austria, I found books on how to create a crib. We have no books like this in the U.S. Since then, I've found more from Italy and Spain.

The Internet opened up a whole new world of crèche art. I met people with the same interest and started a forum. Luigi, from this forum, is one of our cherished members.

Happily, we now have Google translations so that we can view the crib forums in Spain and Italy. The PASSO PASSO forum here is outstanding and there is always something new to learn.

There are not many people in the U.S. who know that this art form exists so we depend on you to provide us with inspiration and new ideas. Much applause is due the moderator of this forum.

Best wishes,
Bill

Thank you for the warm welcome. If only I could write in Italian, I could attempt to contribute more instead of just taking away from here. I have a strange goal -- to make cribs at a fast pace. That's because I hope to get others interested with simple instructions and video. If they can do it at a fairly rapid pace and use materials that are easy to get at DIY stores and hobby stores, it may get more people interested.

I would like to convince art teachers in Catholic schools in the United States to teach Crib Art. It's not easy to attract them because they don't want a messy classroom. Still, it's one of the most Catholic art forms that should be taught in the church-sponsored schools.

Next, I would like to convince the clergy to set an example with beautiful cribs in churches. In the United States some of the worst cribs are found in cathedrals and bacilicas. Our clergy has never seen any crib like people in this forum can produce. I am creating a DVD highlighting the worst cribs in big US churches alongside beautiful cribs from churches in Italy and Spain. I'll be sending it to bishops and priests - maybe give them a kick-start. Last year, a newspaper in Malaysia published my comments about the awful church cribs and some people were very upset that I would be critical of anything in a church.

I have built a wide variety of crib modules, using lightweight foam, to assemble with ease. I bring them to display at churches and craft fairs just to get people interested in the hobby. People here don't even know you can make a crib scene. They think it's something you just buy at Walmart and put on a shelf in December.

The colors I use are bright and vivid since that is the environment here in a Florida beachfront town. The figures we have available are by Fontanini. The artists (in Bagna di Lucca, Italy) color Fontanini figures with tinted water, so I paint them with solid colors.

One thing I can contribute is music. If anyone needs classical or Christmas background music for a crib video, feel free to ask.

Please accept my apology for not writing in Italian.

Best wishes,
Bill
